“Scenes from Childhood” Concert on May 27, 3:oo pm

A special concert for the young, and the young at heart, will be performed at 3 p.m. Sun., May 27, in Pulaski with a free “make-your-own” ice cream sundae party to follow.

Acclaimed pianist Rob Auler has arranged a concert aimed at introducing children to the world of Classical music. Auler, professor of piano at SUNY Oswego, will perform Mozart’s “Twinkle Twinkle Variations” and Robert Schumann’s “Scenes from Childhood,” as well as “The Story of Babar the Elephant,” by Francis Poulenc.

The concert will be an interactive event involving art and story-telling with music.  The program begins at 3:00 p.m. Sun., May 27, at the Pulaski Congregational Church, 27 Lake Street in Pulaski. There will be a pre-concert warm-up with Pulaski High School singer/guitarist Jacob Nicholson.

The audience will recognize the melody from “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” as Auler, professor of piano at SUNY Oswego, performs  Mozart’s Twelve Variations on “Ah vous dirai-je, Maman.”

Auler also will perform Robert Schumann’s “Scenes from Childhood”— 13 musical vignettes that paint pictures such as “Blind Man’s Bluff” and “Of Strange Countries and People.” Artists Bill DeForest and Carrie Goldworthy will display their drawings inspired by the music and invite children to sketch along with them.

Syracuse actor and drama teacher Gerard Moses will narrate the tale of Barbar to music performed by Auler. The entire concert will last about an hour and follow with an ice cream social sponsored by Stewart’s Shops.
